Not all habitat and land management projects have funding available, but some do. When we can, we want to utilize those resources to help you get more done for less. We work with state and federal programs to help with project funding. The funding availability changes from state to state and county to county, but some of the common areas we are able to get funding are tree plantings, cedar tree clearing, dam building, CRP, and Native Grassland plantings to name a few.

Wildlife Management

More goes into managing wildlife on your property, than just going hunting on opening day, if you want to maximize your experience. The first and most important thing is to determine the goals for your property and the wildlife that reside on it. Upon determining your goals, you need to figure out the limiting factors that are preventing you from achieving those goals and develop a plan from there. That plan should include populations of predators, target species, and habitat considerations.

A trail camera is a very effective way to monitor a deer herd over time. With this survey, we can determine the buck-to-doe ratio, doe-to-fawn ratio, and age structure of bucks on your property. This information becomes very vital in determining a management plan to grow those big bucks and set a harvest strategy for the fall. We can also use these to get an idea of the predators on your property as well as turkey numbers!

By using population monitoring through tactics such as trail camera surveys, we are able to develop harvest strategies that will keep the wildlife on your farm in the best conditions to allow you to have the most enjoyment out of your hunting property. This would include things like the following: how many should be harvested, what bucks to harvest or not harvest, or how to manage the predators on your property to protect the fawns, turkeys, and upland birds during their nesting season.

With over 20 years of trapping experience, we have the tools to aid you in reducing predator or nuisance wildlife populations. After the development of a management plan, we will have determined the timing and needs for trapping. We have begun offering 2-3 week trapping programs on clients' properties, so we can take the predators at the optimal time to have the best benefit for ground nesting birds and fawns. Maybe beavers, muskrats or mink are causing issues with your ponds and waterways. We will obtain the proper permits and come in and remove those animals to protect your investments.

HABITAT MANAGEMENT

Proper development and management of the habitat wildlife uses on your property, is the most important piece of the puzzle to thriving wildlife species. Not having the proper habitat or properly managing that habitat is typically the number one limiting factor keeping most landowners from meeting their goals. With 12+ years of developing and managing habitats, we are always striving to learn more and do better for our clients. Not only can we develop the plan, but we implement the plans and work in the field daily.

With a property visit, we will discuss your specific goals for the property. Based on those goals, we will design a habitat plan to meet your objectives and to maximize the production of your farm. Then we start the planning process to implement the practices determined in the plan. Where we can, we will help assist you in obtaining cost-share assistance. This is not always a viable option for every piece of land or landowner, but if it can be used we will.

Once the habitat is in place, we will help you with the management of the habitat. This may be through consultation or hiring us directly to complete the work. Some of the common practices include but are not limited to tree cutting, spraying, mowing, discing, and burning. Although I have conducted thousands of acres of controlled burns over the last 12 years, we are no longer offering controlled burning as a service at this time. We can assist you with preparing fire breaks and developing a burn plan.

We would love the opportunity to give you a full listing presentation and be able to tell you exactly what we can do to help you out.
